Keychains as POD's add-on king
Keychains have a unique POD role: cheap enough ($8-18 retail) to be an add-on, gift-friendly enough to be standalone:
- Add-on to mug/blanket orders (+$8-15 keychain raises AOV)
- Wedding favors (50-200 unit bulk orders)
- Memorial gifts (lost pet, deceased family member)
- Bridesmaid gifts
- Birthday party favors
Step-by-step setup
- Pick keychain materials. Acrylic (clear/colored, most popular), metal (durable, premium), leather (rustic), wood (eco), photo keychain. Start with acrylic + photo.
- Install PIMW Product Personalizer. Keychain designer with shape variants is built in. Install from the Shopify App Store.
- Configure shape variants. Round 1.5 in, rectangle 2x1 in, oval 2x1.5 in, custom shape (cat, dog, heart, state outline). Start with round + rectangle.
- Upload mockups per shape and material. Each shape and material variant needs its own mockup.
- Add photo upload with background removal. Photo keychains (pet face, family photo) are the biggest POD keychain category. Configure photo upload with auto background removal.
- Add text personalization. Name, date, monogram. Common combo: pet photo + pet name + birthdate.
- Build keychain set offerings. Keychains sell well in sets: 'all the family pets', 'family member initials', 'wedding party keychains'. Add set / bundle products.
Material choice
- Acrylic (clear / colored): Most common. Cost $1.50-3. Sublimation or UV print.

Yes. PIMW Product Personalizer writes the customer's personalization to standard Shopify line item properties, which Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other major print-on-demand apps read.
