What is a custom baby onesie maker?
A custom baby onesie maker is a Shopify app that lets customers (typically gift-givers) personalize a baby onesie with the baby's name, birth date, or family-role text: using OEKO-TEX certified safe inks. The Shopify standard is Print It My Way (free to install). Baby POD AOV: $22-32 single, $45-75 matched sibling sets.
Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way (free). From the Shopify App Store.
- Pick baby-safe blanks. Rabbit Skins 4400 (snap-closure newborn), Bella+Canvas 100B (3-12 months), Gildan 64500P (toddler tee). All OEKO-TEX certified.
- Upload baby-on-model mockups. Real photos on actual babies/kids where possible. Lifestyle photography drives gift-buyer conversion.
- Configure name + date fields. Baby name (70%+ of orders), birth date, milestone ('First Christmas'), family role ('Daddy's Princess').
- Add gift workflow. Most orders are gifts. Add gift message field, gift wrap upcharge ($3-5), ship-to-different-address logic.
- Verify OEKO-TEX inks. Confirm with your POD partner. Printful, Printify, Gelato all use OEKO-TEX certified DTG inks on baby items by default.
Baby-safe blanks
- Rabbit Skins 4400: Snap-closure newborn (0-12 months). $7-10 cost.
- Bella+Canvas 100B: Premium soft baby tee. $9-13 cost.
- Gildan 64500P: Toddler tee (2T-5T). $8-12 cost.
Most-popular baby personalization
- Baby's name (70%+ of orders)
- Birth date + 'Born 2026'
- Family role ('Daddy's Princess', 'Grandma's Boy')
- Milestone ('I'm 1', 'First Christmas')
- Sibling matched sets ('Big Sister' + 'Little Brother')
Baby-safe considerations
OEKO-TEX certified DTG inks (used by major POD partners) meet baby-safe standards. Snap closures (not buttons) on newborn onesies. No glitter or metallic inks on baby/toddler items (flake hazard). Flame-resistant labeling for sleepwear specifically.
Gift-giver workflow
70%+ of orders are gifts. Buyer is typically aunt, grandparent, friend, not the parent. Build for the gift-giver:
- Gift message field at checkout
- Gift wrap upcharge ($3-5)
- Ship-to-different-address (gift-giver's home vs new parents')
- Confirmation goes to gift-giver only
Baby onesie pricing
Newborn onesie: $22-32 retail. Matched sibling sets: $45-75. Gift bundle (multiple items): $55-95.
