Is Print It My Way free to install?
Yes. Print It My Way is free to install from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan covers small stores at low order volumes; paid plans unlock higher order volume, advanced features like Cart Transform per-character pricing, premium fonts, and white-glove support. There is no upfront fee and no credit card required to install.
How much does Print It My Way cost?
Print It My Way starts at $0/month with the Free plan and scales to higher monthly tiers as your order volume grows. Specific pricing tiers are listed on the Shopify App Store listing — current plans typically range from $0 (Free) through approximately $15-$99/month for higher-volume tiers. There are no transaction fees, no per-personalization fees, and no surprise upcharges.
Does Print It My Way charge transaction fees?
No. Print It My Way does not charge transaction fees on personalized orders. You pay your Shopify plan fee and your Print It My Way plan fee, and that's it. The number of personalized orders inside your plan tier does not incur additional per-order cost.
Is there a free trial of paid plans?
Yes. Paid plans typically come with a 14-day free trial that lets you test premium features (Cart Transform, premium fonts, advanced analytics) before billing begins. You can downgrade to Free at any time without losing your product configurations.
Can I switch plans later without losing my product setups?
Yes. Plan switches preserve all your existing product configurations, customer-saved designs, and historical orders. Upgrading unlocks additional features instantly; downgrading retains your data but disables features above your new tier.
What happens if I exceed my plan's order volume?
You get a soft warning. Print It My Way doesn't shut off personalization mid-cycle — instead, you receive an email recommending an upgrade and overages are handled at the next billing cycle. Your customers never see a disruption.
Are there any setup fees or onboarding charges?
No. Setup is self-serve and free. You can configure as many products as your plan allows without any onboarding fee. Enterprise plans optionally include white-glove migration assistance at no extra charge.
How does Print It My Way pricing compare to Customily, Zakeke, Hulk, and Bold Product Options?
Print It My Way's Free tier is genuinely free with no transaction fees. Customily and Zakeke start around $19-$29/month with transaction-fee variants on some plans. Is the Print It My Way subscription billed via Shopify?
Yes. Billing flows through Shopify's standard app billing — the charge appears on your monthly Shopify invoice alongside your plan fee. No separate credit card setup or invoice from Print It My Way.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your Shopify Apps page anytime. Your product configurations remain accessible during the current billing period, and historical order data remains in Shopify after cancellation.
Do you offer discounts for non-profits, students, or annual prepay?
Yes for non-profits — contact support@printitmyway.com for the non-profit discount code. Annual prepay typically offers a 10-15% discount over monthly billing on paid plans.
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify Lite or Buy Button stores?
Print It My Way requires a Shopify store with the Online Store sales channel enabled. Shopify Lite (Buy Button only) does not have the full storefront block architecture, so the personalizer cannot render. Upgrade to Shopify Basic or higher to use Print It My Way.
Setup and installation
How long does Print It My Way take to install?
The Shopify App Store install takes about 60 seconds. Configuring your first personalized product (text field, font picker, live preview) takes 5-10 minutes. A complete catalog rollout across 50+ products via the bulk-apply template feature typically takes 30-60 minutes total.
Do I need to edit my Shopify theme code to install Print It My Way?
No. Print It My Way uses Shopify's storefront block architecture (App Embeds and Section Embeds) — no theme code edits are required. The personalizer appears on product pages automatically once installed.
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify 2.0 themes like Dawn, Refresh, Sense, Crave?
Yes. Print It My Way is built for Online Store 2.0 themes and works natively with Dawn, Refresh, Sense, Crave, Studio, Trade, and every other official Shopify 2.0 theme without any theme editing.
Does Print It My Way work with older non-2.0 themes (Debut, Brooklyn, Narrative)?
Yes, with a fallback embed mode. The personalizer renders via a JavaScript embed instead of native storefront blocks. We recommend upgrading to a Shopify 2.0 theme for the best customer experience, but older themes are supported.
Can I test Print It My Way on a development store before going live?
Yes. Install on a Shopify development store (free for Shopify Partners) to test configurations before pushing to your live store. Configurations can be exported and imported across stores.
How do I add personalization to my first product?
Install Print It My Way → open the product in Shopify admin → click the Print It My Way tab → drag in a text field (or photo upload, color swatch, etc.) → configure the label, character limit, and validation → upload a product mockup → save. The personalizer appears on the storefront immediately.
Can I copy a personalization setup from one product to many?
Yes. Save a configured product's setup as a template, then bulk-apply that template to multiple products or to an entire Shopify collection. Per-product overrides handle variations.
How do I uninstall Print It My Way?
Uninstall from your Shopify Apps page. The personalizer fields disappear from product pages immediately. Historical orders keep their personalization data on the line items — that data lives on Shopify orders, not on Print It My Way's servers, so it remains accessible after uninstall.
Is there a video walkthrough or onboarding tutorial?

Features and field types
What field types does Print It My Way support?
Single-line text, multi-line text, dropdown, radio group, checkbox, checkbox group, color swatch, image swatch, photo upload, file upload, date picker, time-slot booking, CSV bulk upload, monogram builder, font picker (built-in), and clipart library picker. New field types are added periodically based on merchant feedback.
Can I add custom text fields to Shopify products?
Yes. Custom text fields support single-line and multi-line input, character limits, font choice, color choice, live preview, profanity validation, and per-character pricing. They work for engraving, embroidery, printed apparel, signage, and any product where the customer types something the production process renders.
Can I add photo upload to Shopify products?
Yes. Photo upload supports JPG, PNG, HEIC, and most common image formats. Features include automatic HEIC orientation handling, aspect-ratio-locked cropping, zoom, rotate, filters (B&W, sepia, Pop Art, watercolor), background removal, and minimum-resolution / DPI quality warnings.
Can I add multiple photos in a collage layout?
Yes. The multi-photo collage builder supports 2-12 photo slots per product with per-slot aspect ratios, drag-to-swap between slots, and per-slot cropping. Common layouts: 2-photo side-by-side, 3-in-a-row, 4-grid, 6-on-mug-wrap, hero+thumbnails for wedding-album style.
Can I add a color picker or color swatches?
Yes. Color swatches display real visual colors with hover labels and update the product mockup live as the customer taps each swatch. An eyedropper variant lets customers pick a color from an uploaded photo or logo and use that color in the design.
Can I add a date picker for delivery, event, or pickup dates?
Yes. The date picker supports minimum lead times (so customers can't pick same-day if you need 5 days production), blackout dates (holidays, your closed days), day-of-week restrictions, and time-slot booking with capacity caps per slot.
Can I add conditional logic to show or hide fields?
Yes. Conditional logic supports show/hide rules based on earlier answers, with operators including equals, not-equals, greater-than, in-list, and variant-equals. AND/OR/NOT combinations are supported for compound conditions.
Can I require some fields and make others optional?
Yes. Each field has a required/optional toggle. Conditional requirements are also supported — a field can become required only when an earlier branching answer is selected.
Can I make personalization fields per Shopify variant?
Yes. Different variants of the same product can have different field configurations — for example, a "small" variant might have a 10-character engraving limit while a "large" variant has 25 characters. Variant-aware fields read the active variant and adapt their rules.
Can I add per-character pricing for engraving?
Yes. Per-character pricing uses Shopify Cart Transform Function to add the per-character fee as a separate line in the cart. Tiered pricing (first 10 free, $1 each after) and flat rates (every character $1) are both supported.
Can I add upcharges for premium options (premium font, gift wrap, rush production)?
Yes. Upcharge fields add a fee to the cart when the customer selects a premium option. The fee is shown transparently in the cart as a separate line item with the option label.
Can I add a curved text effect for circular logos and badges?
Yes. The curve effect supports arched (top), arched (bottom), full circle, and wave layouts. Letter spacing adjusts automatically along the curve so the result looks professionally typeset, not naively rotated.
Can I add a monogram builder for jewelry, towels, and gifts?
Yes. The monogram builder supports traditional (first-LAST-middle with middle larger), modern block (all same size, in order), cypher (interlocked), and single-initial layouts. Monogram-specific font sets are included.
Can I add a clipart library for customers without their own artwork?
Yes. The built-in library contains 500+ commercially-licensed clipart items across wedding, baby, holiday, pet, and other common occasions. Custom upload of your own clipart is also supported.
Live preview and mockups
Does Print It My Way show a live preview of the customer's design?
Yes. The preview renders in real time as the customer types text, switches fonts, picks colors, or uploads photos. Updates appear in under 100ms for fluid interaction.
Can I use real product photos as the preview canvas?
Yes. Upload a clean product photo at 2000+ pixels on the long edge and the preview renders customer designs on that photo. Vector-template mockups also work but real photos convert better.
Can the preview handle 3D / curved products like mugs and hats?
Yes. Perspective warp templates render flat customer text with the right curve on mug wraps, hats, and other 3D products. Print It My Way includes warp templates for common shapes.
Can customers see multiple angles of the product (front, side, back)?
Yes. Multi-angle previews show the customer's design on the front, back, and side views simultaneously. Switching tabs is instant.
Does the live preview work on mobile?
Yes. The preview is responsive and renders at full screen width on mobile so customers can see their design clearly. Touch gestures (pinch to zoom, swipe) work natively.
Can customers download a preview image after personalizing?
Yes (configurable). Many stores enable this for gift senders who want to share a preview with the recipient before shipping. The downloaded preview is watermarked or unwatermarked based on your config.
Does the preview include filters and effects?
Yes. Filters (black & white, sepia, vintage, Pop Art, watercolor) render in the preview and persist into the final print file at full resolution.
What if the customer's preview looks different from the actual product?
The preview uses your uploaded mockup as the canvas, so screen-to-product fidelity depends on the mockup. Color profile drift between screen (sRGB) and print (CMYK) is normal — for color-critical products, calibrate the mockup hex values against a printed sample.
Custom text and fonts
How many fonts does Print It My Way include?
35+ commercially-licensed fonts as of 2026, covering serif, sans-serif, script, display, monogram, and decorative styles. Custom font upload is also supported for fonts you've licensed yourself.
Can I upload my own custom font?
Yes. Upload TTF, OTF, WOFF, or WOFF2 font files. Make sure you have a commercial license for any custom font you upload — Print It My Way doesn't verify licensing on your behalf.
Does the customer's chosen font show on the order?
Yes. The font name is stored as a line-item property on the order, and the chosen font is rendered into the print-ready file so your fulfillment team or POD partner doesn't need to install the font.
Can I limit fonts per product?
Yes. A wedding product can show only serif and script fonts; a corporate gift can show only clean sans-serifs. Each product has its own font set.
Does Print It My Way support multi-language text (Cyrillic, Arabic, CJK)?
Yes. Full Unicode support with Noto font fallback for any script not covered by the primary font. Right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew) render correctly with reversed text direction.
Does the text field block profanity automatically?
Yes. A built-in multi-language profanity blocklist screens inputs at checkout. Custom blocklist terms can be added (competitor names, brand-restricted words). Manual review queue is available for high-risk products.
Can I validate text format with regex (phone numbers, dates, coordinates)?
Yes. Regex pattern validation supports any format constraint — alphanumeric only, phone-number patterns, GPS coordinate formats, etc.
Can I enforce a maximum character count per field?
Yes. Each text field has a hard character limit that the field enforces at input time, with a live character counter shown to the customer.
Can text fields charge per character (engraving fees)?
Yes. Per-character pricing uses Shopify Cart Transform Function — flat rates ($1/character) and tiered rates (first 10 free, $1 each after) are both supported.
Can I add an optional gift message field?
Yes. A multi-line text field marked optional and labeled "Gift message (optional)" handles this. The message appears on the line item and optionally on the packing slip.
Can text follow a curve (for badges, mug wraps, circular logos)?

Can I limit which characters customers can type (letters only, no emoji)?

Photo upload and image handling
What image formats does Print It My Way accept for upload?
JPG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP, and most common image formats. HEIC photos from iPhone are converted to JPG with EXIF orientation preserved automatically.
Can customers crop their uploaded photo?
Yes. The crop tool locks to your specified aspect ratio (matching the print area) and supports zoom, rotate, and reposition. Customers see exactly what will print.
Does Print It My Way detect low-resolution uploads?
Yes. A DPI / dimension check runs on every upload and on the cropped output. Soft warnings show below a configured threshold; hard blocks prevent checkout for images too small to print at the selected size.
Can I add image filters (black & white, sepia, Pop Art)?
Yes. Built-in filters include None, Black & White, Sepia, Vintage, Pop Art (Warhol style), and Watercolor. Filters render at print resolution and bake into the print file.
Can Print It My Way remove the background from uploaded photos?
Yes. Automatic AI background removal handles 80%+ of common cases (pets, people, products). Replacement options include transparent (for stickers), solid color, or pre-set background images. A manual touch-up queue catches the hard cases (frizzy hair, matching backgrounds).
Does this work for pet portraits with detailed fur?
Yes for most fur types. Very fine fur on a matching background sometimes needs manual touch-up via the admin review queue before fulfillment.

What's the maximum file size for uploads?
Default 10 MB per upload, configurable up to 100 MB on higher-tier plans. Larger files are automatically compressed without quality loss for storage; the print file uses the full-resolution original.
Where are uploaded photos stored?
On Print It My Way's secure cloud storage, encrypted at rest, and linked to the order line item. Files are retained for the order's lifecycle plus your data retention policy (typically 90 days post-fulfillment unless you customize).
Are customer photos shared or used for training?
No. Customer photos are private to your store and used only for fulfilling that customer's order. They are not used for AI training, shared with third parties, or accessible to other merchants.
Cart Transform and pricing rules
What is Shopify Cart Transform Function?
Cart Transform is Shopify's API (introduced in 2023) that lets apps modify line items in the cart — add surcharges, split bundles, calculate dynamic prices — without creating variants. Print It My Way uses Cart Transform to handle per-character pricing, upcharges, and quantity tier discounts cleanly.
Why is Cart Transform better than variant-based pricing for personalization?
Variant-based pricing forces a separate SKU for each pricing combination (e.g. "0-10 chars: $25", "11-20 chars: $30"). With multiple options, the variant count explodes quickly and Shopify caps variants per product. Cart Transform calculates the surcharge live and adds it to the cart line — no variant explosion, no SKU clutter.
Does Cart Transform require Shopify Plus?
The base Cart Transform API is available on Shopify Plus. Print It My Way's per-character pricing and upcharges use this on Plus stores. On non-Plus plans, equivalent pricing is achieved via a slightly different mechanism that preserves the same customer-facing behavior.
How does Cart Transform interact with discount codes?
Cart Transform surcharges attach to the line item, so order-level discount codes (10% off) apply to the full line including the surcharge by default. Per-line discounts can be scoped to base price only.
How is tax calculated on Cart Transform surcharges?
Surcharges inherit the product's tax class — taxed if the base product is taxed, exempt if the base is exempt. This is correct in most jurisdictions including EU VAT and US sales tax.
Does Cart Transform work with Shopify POS?
Yes. Cart Transform surcharges appear on POS cart the same as online cart, so in-store customers see and pay the personalization surcharge correctly.
Can I see the surcharge breakdown in the customer's order?
Yes. The order detail in Shopify admin shows the base price, each surcharge as a separate line, and the total. Customers see the same breakdown in their order confirmation email.
What if a customer changes the personalization after add-to-cart?
The cart updates instantly. Cart Transform recalculates the surcharge on every cart modification, so the price stays accurate as the customer iterates.

Does Print It My Way work with Printful?

Does Print It My Way work with Print-on-Demand apps like Teelaunch, Pillow Profits, JondoFy?
Yes for any POD app that reads Shopify line-item properties (which all major POD apps do). Native specialized integrations exist for Printful, Printify, and Gelato; other partners receive the print file via the standard order export.
What if my POD partner needs a specific file format (PSD, PDF, vector)?
Print It My Way generates PNG, JPG, and PDF by default. PSD output and vector (SVG/EPS) output are available for partners that require them.
Does Print It My Way work for in-house fulfillment (you produce, not POD)?
Yes. Print files attach to each order in Shopify admin as downloadable PDFs/PNGs. Your production team downloads from the order and produces. Bulk-download tools handle high-volume order days.
Can different products use different POD partners?
Yes. Apparel can ship from Printful, mugs from Printify, posters from Gelato — Print It My Way passes the print file to whichever partner Shopify routes each product to.
What happens if the POD partner rejects the print file?
Print It My Way's admin queue flags rejected files with the partner's reason (resolution too low, content policy, etc.). You can re-submit, switch providers, or contact the customer for revisions.
Does Print It My Way support embroidery (DST, EXP files)?
Yes. Vector and rasterized text/logos can be sent to embroidery providers; DST/EXP stitch files are accepted as uploads for fixed designs.
Can I preview the Printful or Printify print position before I publish?
Yes. The product mockup in Print It My Way uses the partner's product photo with their print area mapped, so you (and the customer) see exactly where the design will print.
International, multi-language, multi-currency
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify Markets?
Yes. Field labels translate per language, upcharge prices can be set per currency, and the personalizer fully supports right-to-left languages.
Can I sell personalized products globally?
Yes. Combine Shopify Markets (multi-currency, multi-language storefront) with a global POD partner like Gelato (distributed production in 32+ countries) for true global personalized commerce.
What languages does the customer interface support?
The interface is translatable to any language Shopify Markets supports. Default translations ship for English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, simplified and traditional Chinese, Korean, and Arabic.
Does Print It My Way handle right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew)?

Can I price upcharges differently per currency?

Does this work with Shopify's automatic currency conversion?

Does Print It My Way support Shopify Plus B2B?
Yes. B2B company accounts, net 30/60/90 terms, customer-specific pricing tiers, and approval workflows all work with personalized products on Shopify Plus B2B.
Can I offer different pricing to wholesale customers?
Yes. Wholesale-tagged customers (or B2B company accounts on Plus) can see different quantity tier breaks, different upcharge fees, or skip upcharges entirely depending on configuration.
Can customers upload a CSV of names for bulk corporate orders?
Yes. The CSV bulk upload field accepts up to 1000 rows by default (10,000+ on enterprise plans). Validation runs at upload time with row-level error feedback. Each row becomes a personalized line item.
Can I require a design approval step before production?
Yes. The approval workflow generates a proof PDF, emails it to the customer, and pauses production until approved or changes requested. Common for high-value orders, wedding stationery, business signage.
Can I set minimum order quantities for wholesale-only products?
Yes. The minimum order quantity can be scoped to logged-in wholesale customers — retail customers see no minimum, B2B customers see "min 25 units."

Performance, mobile, and Core Web Vitals
Does Print It My Way slow down my Shopify store?
No. The personalizer uses Shopify's storefront block architecture, loads only on personalized product pages, and doesn't add render-blocking scripts site-wide. Lighthouse Core Web Vitals scores stay green with default settings.
What's the impact on Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS)?
Negligible on non-personalized pages (no impact). On personalized product pages, LCP and CLS remain green; INP can increase slightly during heavy customer interaction (typing in text fields, swatching colors) but stays well within Google's "good" threshold under typical use.
Does the personalizer work well on mobile?
Yes. The UI is mobile-first with tap-friendly targets (44x44px minimum), single-column layout, sticky add-to-cart, and full-width preview. Tested across iOS Safari, Android Chrome, Firefox mobile, and in-app browsers.
Does the personalizer work in the Shopify Shop app?

GDPR, privacy, and compliance
Is Print It My Way GDPR compliant?
Yes. Personalization data is processed under your data controller relationship with the customer. Print It My Way (as a processor) holds the data only as long as needed for fulfillment, encrypts at rest and in transit, and supports right-to-erasure requests through Shopify's standard customer data deletion APIs.
Where is customer data stored?
On secure cloud infrastructure with geographic options — EU customers' data can be stored in EU data centers if required for GDPR data-residency. US data is stored in US-region data centers by default.
Does Print It My Way share customer data with third parties?
No, except as required for fulfillment (POD partners receive the print file to fulfill the order). No data is sold or used for advertising. Customer photos are not used for AI model training.
Are payment details handled by Print It My Way?
No. All payment processing is handled by Shopify's standard checkout. Print It My Way never sees or stores payment information.
How long is customer data retained?
For the duration of the order's lifecycle (typically 90 days post-fulfillment) unless you customize the retention period. After retention expires, photos and personalization details are purged. Order line-item properties remain on the Shopify order indefinitely (or as Shopify retains them).
Does Print It My Way support customer right-to-erasure (GDPR Article 17)?
Yes. When a customer requests data deletion via Shopify's standard customer data deletion API, Print It My Way's data is purged within the standard 30-day GDPR window.
Support and migrating from another app
How do I contact Print It My Way support?

Can I migrate from Customily, Zakeke, Hulk Product Options, or Bold Product Options?

Can I migrate from Etsy to Shopify with personalization intact?
Yes for new orders going forward — Etsy's loose "Note to seller" personalization is upgraded to structured Shopify fields. Historical Etsy orders stay in Etsy's order history.
Will my existing personalized orders still display correctly after switching from another app?
Yes. Personalization data on past orders lives on Shopify line items, not in the old app's database. Old orders continue to display their personalization in Shopify admin after the old app is removed.
What if I find a bug or want to request a feature?
