- HEIC iPhone photos rendering sideways
- Accepting low-resolution uploads without warning

Step-by-step setup
- Audit your store against the mistakes list. Walk through your storefront as a customer. Identify which mistakes you're making.
- Install Print It My Way. Most of these mistakes disappear once you're on a modern POD designer. Install from the Shopify App Store.
- Fix the highest-impact mistakes first. Live preview, mobile UX and mockup fidelity move the needle most. Fix those before fonts and colors.
- Test each fix in production. Don't trust fixes without verification. Test on real devices.
- Measure conversion impact. A/B test each fix or measure before/after over 2-4 weeks.
- Document your fixes. Build a checklist so new SKUs avoid the same mistakes.
- Schedule quarterly mistake review. New mistakes creep in over time. Quarterly review keeps the store clean.
Mistake 1: Vector template mockups
Vector mockups read as clip art, and real product photos convert 10-30% better. Replace your top 10 SKUs first.
Mistake 2: No live preview
Static preview or delayed updates make customers doubt the product. Live preview that updates in under 100ms is the single highest-impact feature.
Mistake 3: HEIC iPhone photos sideways
EXIF orientation flag stripped during conversion = portrait iPhone photo prints sideways. Test by uploading a known-sideways iPhone photo.
Mistake 4: Low-resolution uploads accepted silently
Customer uploads 800x600, store prints on 16x20 canvas, refund follows. Set per-product DPI minimums with warnings.
Mistake 5: Too many fonts
50+ font library = decision paralysis. 4-7 fonts curated by category covers most use cases without overwhelming.
Mistake 6: Text color dropdowns
'Forest Green' written in a dropdown ≠ seeing forest green. Visual swatches convert 15-25% better than text dropdowns.
Mistake 7: Scattered required fields
10 always-visible required fields feels like a tax form. Use conditional logic to show fields contextually.
Mistake 8: Mobile as afterthought
60-75% of POD traffic is mobile. Desktop-only optimization leaves 20-40% conversion on the table.
Mistake 9: No personalization-aware cart recovery
Standard abandoned cart emails miss POD's biggest recovery opportunity. Use preview-in-email for personalized carts.
Mistake 10: No print-file QA
Print file generated but never visually verified before order ships. Manual review queue catches edge cases before production.

Which POD designer mistake costs the most?
Vector template mockups or no live preview, depending on category. Both leave 15-30% conversion on the table per affected product.
How do I tell if I'm making mistake 3 (HEIC sideways)?
Upload a known-portrait iPhone photo to your personalizer. If it appears sideways, you're affected. Most stores find this bug by accident from customer complaints.
Is it worth fixing all 10 at once?
No: sequence by impact. Live preview and mobile UX first (highest impact). Fonts and colors later (medium impact). Cart recovery and QA last (operational).
How fast can I fix these mistakes?
With Print It My Way installed, 7 of 10 fix immediately on install. The remaining 3 (cart recovery, QA process, mobile testing) require configuration work.
Should I document these mistakes for my team?
Yes: build a pre-launch checklist for new SKUs. Catches the same mistakes from re-entering as catalog grows.
Is Print It My Way free to install?
Yes. Print It My Way is free to install from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan covers most small stores; paid plans unlock higher order volume, advanced features like Cart Transform per-character pricing, premium fonts, and white-glove support. There is no upfront fee and no credit card required to install.
How long does Print It My Way take to set up?
Most stores set up their first personalized product in under 15 minutes. The Shopify App Store install takes about 60 seconds; adding text fields, photo upload, color swatches, and live preview to a product takes 5-10 minutes. Catalog-wide rollout (50+ products) uses bulk-apply templates and typically takes 30-60 minutes total.
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Shopify Plus?
Yes. Print It My Way works on every Shopify plan including Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus, and Shopify Starter. Some advanced features like Cart Transform (per-character pricing) and B2B company accounts require Shopify Plus, but the core personalization fields, live preview, and order capture work on every tier.
Does Print It My Way slow down my Shopify store?
No. Print It My Way uses Shopify's storefront block architecture, which loads only on personalized product pages and doesn't add render-blocking scripts site-wide. Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals scores on personalized product pages stay green when the app is configured with default settings.
Does Print It My Way work with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other POD partners?
Yes. Print It My Way has native integrations with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other major print-on-demand partners. The customer's personalization data flows through Shopify's standard order pipeline, so any partner that reads line-item properties (which all major POD apps do) receives the print files automatically.
Does Print It My Way support Shopify Markets, multiple currencies, and multiple languages?
Yes. Field labels translate per language, upcharge prices can be set per currency, and the personalizer fully supports right-to-left languages including Arabic and Hebrew. The personalizer also handles Unicode for Cyrillic, CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean), Greek, and accented Latin characters with appropriate font fallback.
