Why bulk pricing changes who shops with you
If your personalized wine glass is $12 for one or $12 each for 50, you'll get one-off retail buyers and nothing else. The wedding planner shopping for 80 favors moves on to a competitor that offers volume pricing.
A real tier table — visible on the product page, applied automatically at cart — signals 'we do bulk' and attracts the high-AOV buyers who'd otherwise skip you. The conversion improvement is concentrated at the 25+ unit segment, where the AOV jump is largest.
Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way. Quantity tiers use Shopify's Cart Transform Function, which Print It My Way handles. Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
- Open the product (wedding favor, corporate gift, team apparel). Bulk-friendly products typically have a base personalization (one design or text) repeated across multiple units.
- Define your tier table. Common tier structures: 1-9 units @ $10 each, 10-24 @ $8, 25-49 @ $7, 50-99 @ $6, 100+ @ $5. Whatever structure matches your real cost curve.
- Add the tier rule to the product. In the personalizer editor, configure tier pricing. Enter each threshold and the per-unit price (or per-unit discount) at that tier.
- Decide: same design or different designs per unit?. For wedding favors with the same name on all 100, the tier applies to one design × 100 units. For corporate gifts where each unit has a different employee name, you need to handle the personalization-per-unit pattern (which Print It My Way supports via line item generation).
- Show the tier on the product page. Display the tier table on the product page ('10+ units: $8 each | 25+ units: $7 each'). Transparency drives larger orders. Hidden tiers mean customers stop at the smallest quantity.
- Test the price recalculation. Add 5 units to cart, verify base tier price. Increase to 10, verify the price drops to tier 2 across all 10 units. Increase to 25, verify it drops again. Confirm the discount is applied cleanly with no rounding errors.
Designing tiers that actually drive volume
Three principles:
- The first jump matters most — the gap between 1 unit and 10 units should be enough to make a small-event buyer choose 10 over 1. Typically 15-25% off.
- Tiers should reward real cost savings — your production cost per unit drops at certain volumes (single setup, batch printing, etc.). Tier breaks should match those.
- Show the next tier as you cross thresholds — at 8 units in cart, show 'Add 2 more to unlock $8/unit pricing'. Drives upsells.
When each unit has different personalization
Two patterns:
- One design, many units — 50 wedding glasses all engraved 'Sarah & Tom 6/15/26'. Simple: one personalization, quantity 50, tier price applies.
- Many designs, one order — 50 corporate gifts, each with a different employee name. The customer needs to enter 50 names. Print It My Way handles this with a bulk-upload CSV field — customer uploads a list, the order generates 50 line items each with its own personalization but priced at the bulk tier.
Configure based on use case. Wedding favors and family gifts are usually 'one design, many units'; corporate gifts are usually 'many designs, one order'.
Minimum order quantities for B2B
If your bulk product only makes sense at 10+ units, set a minimum order quantity. The product page hides the 'buy now' button until quantity ≥ 10, with a clear hint ('Minimum order: 10 units').
For wholesale-only products, scope the minimum to logged-out customers and let logged-in wholesale customers buy at any quantity.

Can different products have different tier structures?
Yes. Each product has its own tier table. A wedding-favor product and a corporate-mug product can have completely different breaks.
How does this interact with promo codes?
By default, promo codes apply on top of the tier price (so 10% off a $7/unit tier becomes $6.30). You can disable promo stacking on a tier-priced product if you'd rather customers choose one or the other.
What about wholesale customers with negotiated pricing?
Wholesale customers (tagged in Shopify) can be scoped to a separate tier table — typically with deeper discounts than the public tiers.
Does this work with subscriptions?
Yes. If you offer a personalized product on subscription (e.g. monthly branded items), the per-cycle quantity determines the tier price each month.
Can I tier by total order value instead of quantity?
Yes. The tier rule can be set on quantity or on subtotal, depending on what makes more sense for your product.
Is Print It My Way free to install?
Yes. Print It My Way is free to install from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan covers most small stores; paid plans unlock higher order volume, advanced features like Cart Transform per-character pricing, premium fonts, and white-glove support. There is no upfront fee and no credit card required to install.
How long does Print It My Way take to set up?
Most stores set up their first personalized product in under 15 minutes. The Shopify App Store install takes about 60 seconds; adding text fields, photo upload, color swatches, and live preview to a product takes 5-10 minutes. Catalog-wide rollout (50+ products) uses bulk-apply templates and typically takes 30-60 minutes total.
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Shopify Plus?
Yes. Print It My Way works on every Shopify plan including Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus, and Shopify Starter. Some advanced features like Cart Transform (per-character pricing) and B2B company accounts require Shopify Plus, but the core personalization fields, live preview, and order capture work on every tier.
Does Print It My Way slow down my Shopify store?
No. Print It My Way uses Shopify's storefront block architecture, which loads only on personalized product pages and doesn't add render-blocking scripts site-wide. Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals scores on personalized product pages stay green when the app is configured with default settings.
Does Print It My Way work with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other POD partners?
Yes. Print It My Way has native integrations with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other major print-on-demand partners. The customer's personalization data flows through Shopify's standard order pipeline, so any partner that reads line-item properties (which all major POD apps do) receives the print files automatically.
Does Print It My Way support Shopify Markets, multiple currencies, and multiple languages?
Yes. Field labels translate per language, upcharge prices can be set per currency, and the personalizer fully supports right-to-left languages including Arabic and Hebrew. The personalizer also handles Unicode for Cyrillic, CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean), Greek, and accented Latin characters with appropriate font fallback.
