When Gelato is the right choice
Gelato shines when you sell globally. A single Shopify product can fulfill from US, EU, UK, Australian, or Asian facilities depending on the customer's shipping address — turning a 14-day international shipment into a 3-5 day local one.
For personalized products, this is especially valuable: customers personalizing a gift typically have a deadline (birthday, anniversary), and local delivery turns 'might not arrive in time' into 'will arrive in time'.
Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way. Gelato is a supported POD integration. Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
- Install Gelato on Shopify and link your account. From Shopify App Store, install Gelato and connect your Gelato account. Verify your business address.
- Pick the products and regions. Gelato offers different products in different countries — verify the product you want is available in the regions where your customers live. Otherwise, orders to those regions ship from a non-local facility.
- Import a Gelato product to Shopify. From Gelato's product catalog, import to Shopify. Gelato creates the variants and price points; you publish.
- Add personalization in Print It My Way. Open the Shopify product. Add text, photo, or color fields and map them to the Gelato product's print area.
- Test routing for different shipping addresses. Place a test order to a US address and a UK address. Verify each routes to a local Gelato facility (US order to US production, UK order to EU production).
- Verify print file delivery for both routes. Check the Gelato order pages for each test. The print file should be attached and the production facility should be local to the shipping address.
Product availability by region
Gelato's catalog is broad but not identical across regions. Before committing, verify:
- The exact product (size, material) is available in your top customer regions
- The print method (DTG, sublimation, etc.) is consistent across regions for quality parity
- The shipping rate and time from each region matches what you'll display to customers
If a product is only available in 2 of your 5 main markets, customers in the other 3 will see longer shipping times — set expectations on the product page accordingly.
Print file routing to local facilities
When a customer places a personalized order, the print file needs to reach the right facility. Gelato's API handles routing based on shipping address — Print It My Way's connector attaches the print file to the order and Gelato's system places it in the correct facility's queue.
No manual routing on your end. But verify by placing test orders to different addresses and checking the production facility on each order page.
Color consistency across facilities
Different facilities use different presses. A red on US production might be slightly different from the same red on EU production. For brand-color-sensitive products (corporate gifts, branded apparel), Gelato offers a color-matching service worth using.
For consumer personalized products, the variance is usually within acceptable tolerances. Order samples from 2-3 regions if you want to verify.

Does Gelato charge for the API integration?
No. Standard Gelato pricing is per product fulfilled — no integration fee.
What if a customer's region isn't covered?
Gelato fulfills from the nearest available facility. The customer experiences longer shipping time, which is shown at checkout.
Can I price products differently per region?
Yes. Use Shopify Markets to set region-specific prices that reflect the true Gelato cost in each region (US production cost may differ from EU).
How does this work with Shopify Markets?
Cleanly. Shopify Markets handles currency and pricing per region; Gelato handles production per region. Combined, customers get local pricing and local production.
What about returns?
Personalized products generally aren't returnable. Gelato follows that standard policy. State 'personalized — final sale' on the product page.
Is Print It My Way free to install?
Yes. Print It My Way is free to install from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan covers most small stores; paid plans unlock higher order volume, advanced features like Cart Transform per-character pricing, premium fonts, and white-glove support. There is no upfront fee and no credit card required to install.
How long does Print It My Way take to set up?
Most stores set up their first personalized product in under 15 minutes. The Shopify App Store install takes about 60 seconds; adding text fields, photo upload, color swatches, and live preview to a product takes 5-10 minutes. Catalog-wide rollout (50+ products) uses bulk-apply templates and typically takes 30-60 minutes total.
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Shopify Plus?
Yes. Print It My Way works on every Shopify plan including Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus, and Shopify Starter. Some advanced features like Cart Transform (per-character pricing) and B2B company accounts require Shopify Plus, but the core personalization fields, live preview, and order capture work on every tier.
Does Print It My Way slow down my Shopify store?

Does Print It My Way work with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other POD partners?
Yes. Print It My Way has native integrations with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other major print-on-demand partners.
