How do I add quantity discounts to personalized products?
Install Print It My Way (Free plan works). Add a quantity field with tier breakpoints (10 units -10%, 25 -15%, 100+ -20%). Cart Transform applies the discount at checkout as a separate cart line. Bulk-personalization orders (party favors, corporate gifts, wedding welcome bags) benefit most. Setup: 5 minutes.
Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way. Cart Transform on every tier.
- Add quantity field with tier pricing. 1-9 regular, 10-24 -10%, 25+ -15%.
- Test bulk personalization order. Add 20 engraved items, verify discount.
Why bulk personalization needs its own tier
Standard quantity discounts assume identical products. Bulk personalization is different. Each unit has unique customer input (10 keychains, 10 names). Your production has real per-unit labor cost. Discount tiers should reflect: (a) your economy of scale in production, (b) customer's expectation of a bulk break.
Suggested tier structure
| Quantity | Discount | Typical customer |
|---|---|---|
| 1-9 units | Full price | Individual gift buyer |
| 10-24 units | -8-10% | Party favor set |
| 25-99 units | -10-15% | Wedding favor |
| 100+ units | -15-20% | Corporate event |
CSV bulk upload for large orders
For 100+ unit personalization orders, add a CSV bulk-upload field so customer uploads a spreadsheet of names instead of typing 100 line items. Each row becomes a personalized line item. Print It My Way handles up to 1,000 rows default (10,000+ enterprise).
Per-item labor cost
If your engraving takes 3 minutes each, 100 units = 5 hours of labor. Your discount tier should preserve margin. Don't discount below your break-even.
