To sell custom aprons on Shopify, pick an apron blank that suits your buyers, choose a print method that works on its fabric, connect a print partner that makes and ships each apron to order, and set up a product page where customers add their name, monogram, slogan or logo and see it before they pay. With print on demand you hold no stock and there's no minimum order.
Aprons are a quietly good personalized product. They're a classic gift (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas baking, bridal showers), a hobby item for home cooks and bakers, and a uniform for cafes, restaurants and food trucks. A name or logo on an apron is the whole point of the product, which makes it easy to sell at a fair price.
This guide covers the whole job with real numbers. Base prices, shipping rates, fabric details and policies below come from the providers' own catalog data and help centers, checked in October 2026. Prices change, so check them again before you set yours.
Key takeaways
- Print-on-demand aprons cost $17.64 (Printful embroidered) to about $26.69 (Printful heavy twill DTF) in October 2026, plus $4.69 to $6.19 US shipping.
- Match the method to the fabric: sublimation for white polyester, DTG for cotton, DTF or embroidery for twill, names and logos.
- A sublimated name apron at $39.99 leaves about $9.85 and an embroidered one at $34.99 about $11.35 before ads; shoppers pay $28 to $49 at big personalized-gift sellers.
- Neither Printful nor Printify listed a kids apron, and kids products in the US need CPSC third-party testing and a Children's Product Certificate.
Who buys custom aprons
Aprons sell to four quite different buyers, and each one wants a slightly different product page.
- Gift shoppers. Buying for a mom, dad, grandparent, teacher or couple. Printify lists Christmas baking, Father's Day grilling, Easter and Mother's Day as the big gift moments. They want a name, maybe a short funny line, and a nice font.
- Home cooks and bakers buying for themselves. They care about fabric, pockets and color as much as the name.
- Parents buying kids aprons for baking, crafts or birthday parties. Size matters most, and kids products come with extra rules in the US (see below).
- Businesses. Restaurants, caterers and food trucks ordering a set of aprons with a logo, sometimes with each staff member's name. They care about durability, consistency and price per apron.
If you plan to serve all four, build separate products for each group rather than one product with every option. A grill-gift apron page and a cafe uniform page should look and read very differently.
Pick a print method that suits the fabric

The fabric decides the print method, so choose them together.
Sublimation is for white or very light polyester aprons. Printful explains that the dye becomes part of the polyester fiber, so prints won't crack or peel, but it only works on 100% polyester (lower polyester content fades) and on white or light fabric, because there's no white ink. This is how all-over print aprons are made, and it's great for full-color photos and patterns.
DTG (direct to garment) is for cotton. Printful says DTG excels on cotton and works best on blends with 60% or more cotton, while polyester has historically been hard for DTG.
DTF (direct to film) works on polyester, cotton, blends and dark colors. It suits logos and names more than large, full-coverage designs, and Printful advises washing DTF prints inside out, since hot washes can crack them.
Embroidery is the premium option for names, monograms and logos, and the one restaurants and gift shoppers often prefer. Printful offers 15 thread colors and up to 6 in one design. Expect a one-time digitization fee per design (more on cost below).
A simple rule: white polyester apron with a colorful design, use sublimation. Colored cotton or twill apron with a name or logo, use DTG, DTF or embroidery.
Compare apron blanks and print partners
Here is what the main print-on-demand partners charged for an apron in October 2026, in USD, before shipping:
| Partner and apron | Fabric | Method | Base cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printful All-Over Print Apron | 100% polyester, 27.6 x 30.3 in | Sublimation | $22.99 |
| Printful All-Over Print 5-Color Strap Apron | 100% polyester, tie-back | Sublimation | $23.34 |
| Printful Embroidered Apron (Liberty Bags 5502) | 70/30 poly-cotton, 2 pockets | Embroidery | $17.64 |
| Printful Organic Cotton Apron (SOL'S 03569) | 100% organic cotton | DTG (embroidery optional) | $24.95 |
| Printful Heavy Twill Bib Apron (Port Authority A900) | 9.4 oz cotton twill, 12 colors | DTF | $26.69 |
| Printify Apron (AOP), Printify Choice | 100% polyester | Sublimation | $22.51 |
| Printify Apron, 5-Color Straps, Printify Choice | Polyester canvas | Sublimation | $25.18 |
A few things the table doesn't show:
- Embroidery fees. Printful's base price includes one embroidered placement. Each extra placement adds $2.95, and there's a one-time digitization fee of $2.95 to $6.50 per design. Printful's guide on embroidery pricing says digitization is waived on orders of 25 or more items.
- Printify Premium (from $24.99 a month billed yearly) cuts the Printify Choice all-over print apron to $16.82.
- Where it ships from matters. Some Printify aprons are made only in the UK or China. Printify's cotton apron is made by a UK provider and costs $37.29 to ship to the US, with 10 to 30 business days delivery. For US buyers, stick to US-produced aprons.
- No kids aprons. Neither Printful nor Printify listed a kids apron in October 2026. You'd need another supplier for those.
Order a sample of your top one or two aprons and wash it before you list it. Look at the print sharpness, the stitching and how the straps adjust.
Price personalized aprons

Shipping is part of the cost on every apron. US rates in October 2026:
| Apron | First apron | Each extra |
|---|---|---|
| Printful embroidered aprons | $4.69 | $2.00 |
| Printful All-Over Print Apron | $5.69 | $2.50 |
| Printify Choice aprons (standard) | $6.19 | $2.99 |
Two worked examples, with free shipping built into the price:
| Line | Sublimated name apron | Embroidered name apron |
|---|---|---|
| Base cost (Printful) | $22.99 | $17.64 |
| US shipping, first apron | $5.69 | $4.69 |
| Your price | $39.99 | $34.99 |
| Shopify Payments fee (2.9% + 30¢, Basic plan) | $1.46 | $1.31 |
| What's left before ads | $9.85 | $11.35 |
On the embroidered apron, the first order of each new design also carries the one-time digitization fee ($2.95 to $6.50), so price with that in mind for one-off personalized names.
What shoppers already pay, as listed in October 2026:
| Seller | Apron | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Personalization Mall | Personalized adult apron | $36.99 |
| Personalization Mall | Kids craft apron | $24.99 |
| Things Remembered | Embroidered kitchen apron (sale price) | $27.69 |
| Things Remembered | Personalized embroidered canvas grilling apron | $48.69 |
So $35 to $45 for a personalized adult apron sits right in the range buyers know. Heavier canvas grilling aprons can go higher.
Pricing tips:
- Charge for a second line or a logo. A second text line or a back placement costs you more, so make it a paid option.
- Price embroidery above print. Embroidery reads as higher quality, and it costs more to set up.
- Use quantity pricing for businesses. A cafe ordering 20 aprons expects a lower price per apron. Shopify's own discounts can handle quantity breaks.
Our POD profit margins guide goes deeper on pricing.
Prepare apron designs and print files
The partners publish the file basics:
- Printful: PNG or JPEG (PNG only for embroidery), 150 to 300 DPI with 150 as the sweet spot, sRGB, up to 200 MB. For all-over print, use a transparent PNG so unused areas don't print white, and keep key elements inside the safe area so they don't get sewn into a seam.
- Printify: JPEG, PNG or SVG, 300 DPI recommended, up to 100 MB. The exact print area for each apron is shown in its Product Creator.
For personalized aprons, design around the customer's text:
- Leave a clear space on the chest for the name or monogram, and keep it away from the pocket.
- Set a character limit. A chest print gets hard to read once a name or slogan runs long, so test your longest allowed text on a sample.
- Offer three or four fonts, such as a script, a bold block and a classic serif. For embroidery, avoid very thin script that loses detail in thread.
- Use a monogram on fine fabric. On linen or elegant gift aprons, a single initial or three-letter monogram looks better than a full name.
Set up personalized aprons on Shopify

An apron product has two kinds of choices.
Variants for what changes the cost: apron style (bib, BBQ canvas, waist), color and, where offered, size. Shopify allows up to three options and up to 2,048 variants per product. Kitchen, BBQ and kids aprons are different blanks with different costs, so they're often clearer as separate products.
Personalization for what the customer creates: the name, monogram, slogan, date, or a logo or photo upload. These are saved on the order as line item properties, which your print or embroidery partner reads. Our guide to adding custom text fields covers the setup.
A good apron product page has:
- Style and color (variants), shown as real color swatches.
- A text field with a specific label, such as "Name on apron (max 20 characters)".
- A font picker with a default, so the preview never looks empty.
- A live preview of the text on the apron photo.
- Logo or photo upload for business and photo aprons.
- An add-on fee for a second line, a back print or embroidery.
With PIMW Product Personalizer (our app), text fields, the live preview and add-on fees work on every plan, including Free, and logo and photo upload are on the Pro and Unlimited plans. For a staff order with different names, customers can add one apron per name to the cart, each with its own personalization.
Place a test order and check that the name, font and color reach your partner exactly as typed.
Business and bulk apron orders

Business buyers are where aprons turn into repeat orders: new staff, replacements, a second location.
- Minimums vary. Printful says it has no minimum order. Custom Ink lists a minimum of 1 on several embroidered aprons. Vistaprint's aprons range from a minimum of 1 up to 25 depending on the style.
- Digitization adds up on one-offs. At Printful, the digitization fee is waived on orders of 25 or more items, which makes a 25-apron cafe order cheaper per apron than 25 single orders.
- Make it easy to order with names. Let the buyer add one apron per staff member, each with a name, so the order arrives ready to embroider.
- Offer a quote path for very large orders, where a local embroidery shop or a wholesale blank may beat print on demand on price. Wholesale blanks start low: a Port Authority A520 apron was $9.81 at Blankstyle.
Kids aprons: know the rules
In the US, a product designed or intended mainly for children 12 or younger is a children's product. The CPSC requires children's products to be tested by a CPSC-accepted third-party lab and to come with a Children's Product Certificate, plus permanent tracking labels on the product and its packaging.
Since neither Printful nor Printify listed a kids apron in October 2026, you'd source kids aprons from a supplier that can provide that testing and certificate. Don't relabel an adult apron as a kids apron.
Share care instructions
Care instructions vary by apron, so copy them from your partner's product details onto your page. A few examples from the providers:
- Printify's polyester all-over print apron: machine wash cold, no bleach, no tumble drying, iron low.
- Printful's DTF heavy twill apron: clean with a dry cloth, do not wash, tumble dry or iron.
That second one surprises people, so say it clearly on the page. A buyer who machine-washes a "do not wash" apron will blame you, not the care label.
Know the trademark and copyright basics
The US Copyright Office says copyright doesn't protect names, titles, slogans or short phrases, though they may be protected as trademarks. Logos and artwork can be protected by copyright. So don't print other brands' logos, characters or trademarked slogans, and check customers' uploaded logos before printing. A business uploading its own logo is fine; a customer uploading a sports team logo is not. Our POD copyright and trademark guide has more detail.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a print-on-demand apron cost?
In October 2026 Printful's aprons cost $17.64 (embroidered Liberty Bags 5502) to $26.69 (heavy twill DTF), and its all-over print apron $22.99. Printify's all-over print apron from Printify Choice cost $22.51. US shipping runs about $4.69 to $6.19 for the first apron.
What is the best way to print a name on an apron?
It depends on the fabric. Sublimation suits white 100% polyester aprons and full-color designs, DTG suits cotton, and DTF or embroidery suit names and logos on cotton or twill and dark colors. Embroidery looks the most premium but has a one-time digitization fee per design.
How much should I charge for a personalized apron?
Big personalized-gift sellers listed adult aprons at $27.69 to $48.69 in October 2026. A Printful sublimated name apron sold at $39.99 with free shipping leaves about $9.85 after base cost, shipping and Shopify Payments fees, and an embroidered one at $34.99 about $11.35, before ads.
Can I sell custom aprons to restaurants and cafes?
Yes. Business orders usually want a logo and sometimes a name per staff member. Printful has no minimum and waives its embroidery digitization fee on orders of 25 or more items. Let buyers add one apron per name to the cart and offer quantity discounts.
Can I sell personalized kids aprons?
Yes, but in the US a product meant mainly for children 12 or younger is a children's product, which needs testing by a CPSC-accepted lab and a Children's Product Certificate. Neither Printful nor Printify listed a kids apron in October 2026, so use a supplier that provides that certificate.
How do I add a name field to an apron on Shopify?
Keep apron style and color as variants and add the name as a personalization field that saves to the order as a line item property, with a character limit and a live preview. With PIMW Product Personalizer, text fields, preview and add-on fees work on every plan, including Free, and logo upload is on Pro and Unlimited.
