Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way. Bundle personalization works with Shopify's native bundle product type. Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
- Create the bundle product in Shopify. Use Shopify's native bundle product feature (or a bundle app you already trust). Each bundled item is a normal product underneath; the bundle is the public-facing SKU.
- Configure shared personalization fields. In the personalizer editor for the bundle, decide what's shared across items. For couple's mugs, the last name is usually shared ('Smith Family'). For family ornaments, the family name + event year is shared.
- Configure per-item personalization fields. Some fields are unique per item. Couples mugs: 'Sarah' on one, 'Tom' on the other. Family ornaments: kid's name on each. Mark these as per-item fields and let the customer fill in one per bundled item.
- Show a unified preview. The bundle preview should show all bundled items with their respective personalizations side by side. Customer sees the full set at once, not one item at a time.
- Handle add-to-cart as a single bundle line. Add-to-cart should add one bundle line with all personalizations linked. Cart edit (e.g. changing the family name) should propagate to all items in the bundle. Test this — fragmented carts confuse customers.
- Verify fulfillment receives per-item data. Place a test order. The order detail in admin should show each bundled item with its specific personalization, so the fulfillment team can produce each one correctly.
Shared vs unique personalization fields
Bundle fields fall into three categories:
- Shared (one input → all items) — family last name, anniversary year, photo (the same family photo on all bundled mugs).
- Unique per item — first names on couples' mugs, kid names on family ornaments, role labels on team gifts.
- Per-item with default — color theme shared by default, with the option to vary per item if the customer wants.
Categorize each field before building. Mixing shared and unique well is what makes bundle personalization feel curated.
Pricing the bundle vs the individual items
Bundles typically price 5-15% below the sum of individuals to incentivize the multi-item purchase. Two ways to set it:
- Fixed bundle price — the bundle has its own price independent of components. Simpler, but loses transparency.
- Component price minus bundle discount — Shopify shows the savings ('$45 individually, $40 as a bundle, save $5'). More transparent, drives the upgrade.

Can a bundle include products that don't personalize?
Yes. A bundle can mix personalized items (engraved mug) and non-personalized items (matching coaster). Only the personalized items show fields.
Can customers change which items are in the bundle?
Depends on your bundle setup. Fixed bundles (mug + coaster set) are locked. Customizable bundles (pick 3 of 5) work but add complexity — start with fixed bundles.
Does this work with subscription bundles?
Yes. Personalized subscription bundles where the personalization is fixed (family name) work cleanly; subscriptions with changing personalization per cycle need more setup.
Can different items in the bundle use different print partners?
