How do I add rush delivery to a Shopify product?
Add a Radio group field: Standard (free) / 3-day rush (+$10) / 24-hour rush (+$25). Install Print It My Way (Free plan), configure the radio group, and Cart Transform adds the rush fee as a separate line. Optionally add conditional logic (Pro tier) to hide the 24-hour option after your daily cutoff time. Setup: 5 minutes.
Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way. Free plan covers rush delivery radio group.
- Add rush delivery radio field. Standard (free) / 3-day (+$10) / 24-hour (+$25).
- Set production-time override. Rush skips your standard 5-day production.
- Add cutoff logic (Pro tier). Hide 24-hour after 2pm PT: can't fulfill same-day.
- Test with each tier. Verify cart price and delivery expectation.
Recommended tier structure
- Standard: $0 (base). 5-7 day production + shipping.
- Rush (3-day): +$10-$15. Skips production queue, ships priority.
- Super rush (24-hour): +$25-$40. Same-day production + overnight shipping.
Add a fourth option for 48-hour delivery ($18-$20) if your production can support it.
Setup steps
Step 1: Install Print It My Way.
Step 2: Product > Print It My Way tab > Add field > Radio group.
Step 3: Add 3 options: Standard ($0), 3-day rush (+$10), 24-hour rush (+$25).
Step 4: Default: Standard.
Step 5: Add explanatory help text ("Standard: 5-7 days. Rush: 3 business days. Super rush: 24-hour production + overnight shipping.").
Step 6: Attach to eligible products. Save. Test.
Cutoff time logic (Pro tier)
You can't ship same-day orders that come in at 8pm. Use conditional logic (Pro tier $13.99/mo) to hide the 24-hour option based on time of day:
- Show 24-hour option only if current time < 2pm PT
- Show 3-day option only Monday-Wednesday (can't rush over weekend)
Holiday deadlines
Nov-Dec: post explicit deadlines ("Order by Dec 15 with 3-day rush for guaranteed Christmas delivery"). Use a countdown timer near the rush delivery field for urgency.
Rush delivery margins
Your incremental cost:
- 3-day rush: upgrading the shipping typically costs you $5-$8. Charge $10-$15. ~50% margin.
- 24-hour rush: overnight shipping typically costs you $12-$20. Charge $25-$40. ~50% margin.
The upcharge is nearly all margin because production time is your labor, not a hard cost.
