Multi-language POD considerations
Two layers:
- UI translation — field labels, hints, error messages in customer's language
- Customer content handling — customer's typed text in their language renders correctly in production
Don't translate customer content. They typed what they meant. The store engraves it character-for-character.
Step-by-step setup
- Install Print It My Way. AI translation and Unicode handling are built in. Install from the Shopify App Store.
- Identify your supported languages. Match Shopify Markets configuration. If you sell to EU, support EU languages. If you sell to Asia, support CJK.
- Enable AI auto-translation for field labels. Field labels translate based on customer's language. Customer in France sees 'Texte du gravé' instead of 'Engraving text'.
- Configure customer text language detection. AI detects what language the customer types. Engraves it as-typed (don't translate the customer's content — they typed what they meant).
- Set up font fallback per script. Customer types in Arabic / Cyrillic / CJK → personalizer auto-switches to a font that supports those characters. Print It My Way uses Noto as fallback.
- Verify production output. Place test orders in different scripts. Confirm the print file renders the customer's text correctly. RTL languages especially need verification.
UI translation via Shopify Markets
Shopify Markets translates the storefront UI. Print It My Way's field labels translate via the same system — set translations per language for each field.
Font fallback per script
Most decorative fonts cover Latin only. Customer typing in Cyrillic / Arabic / CJK needs a font that supports those characters. Print It My Way auto-falls-back to Noto family (covers nearly every script) when the primary font doesn't have the customer's characters.
Right-to-left language handling
Arabic and Hebrew read right-to-left. The personalizer auto-detects and flips text direction. Print file renders correctly. Verify with a test order.

Should I translate the customer's typed text?
No. The customer typed what they meant. Engrave / print it character-for-character in whatever language they typed.
What languages does Print It My Way support?
All Unicode languages including Latin (with accents), Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean), Thai, Vietnamese. RTL languages handled correctly.
What about emoji in personalization?
Emoji are Unicode characters; they render in preview but most engraving processes can't print color. Emoji print as monochrome silhouettes on the engraved product.
Does AI translation cost extra?
UI translation is free (one-time setup). Auto-translation of customer-typed text isn't recommended (don't translate customer content). LLM costs apply only if you do dynamic translation.
How do I verify multi-language output is correct?
Place test orders in each script. Open the generated print file. Confirm characters render correctly without 'tofu' (blank rectangles). Check RTL languages especially — direction must be reversed correctly.
Is Print It My Way free to install?
Yes. Print It My Way is free to install from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan covers most small stores; paid plans unlock higher order volume, advanced features like Cart Transform per-character pricing, premium fonts, and white-glove support. There is no upfront fee and no credit card required to install.
How long does Print It My Way take to set up?
Most stores set up their first personalized product in under 15 minutes. The Shopify App Store install takes about 60 seconds; adding text fields, photo upload, color swatches, and live preview to a product takes 5-10 minutes. Catalog-wide rollout (50+ products) uses bulk-apply templates and typically takes 30-60 minutes total.
Does Print It My Way work with Shopify Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Shopify Plus?
Yes. Print It My Way works on every Shopify plan including Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus, and Shopify Starter. Some advanced features like Cart Transform (per-character pricing) and B2B company accounts require Shopify Plus, but the core personalization fields, live preview, and order capture work on every tier.
Does Print It My Way slow down my Shopify store?
No. Print It My Way uses Shopify's storefront block architecture, which loads only on personalized product pages and doesn't add render-blocking scripts site-wide. Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals scores on personalized product pages stay green when the app is configured with default settings.
Does Print It My Way work with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other POD partners?
Yes. Print It My Way has native integrations with Printful, Printify, Gelato, and other major print-on-demand partners. The customer's personalization data flows through Shopify's standard order pipeline, so any partner that reads line-item properties (which all major POD apps do) receives the print files automatically.
Does Print It My Way support Shopify Markets, multiple currencies, and multiple languages?
Yes. Field labels translate per language, upcharge prices can be set per currency, and the personalizer fully supports right-to-left languages including Arabic and Hebrew.
