Shopify's native sitemap includes base product URLs only. Variant URLs stay out — matches canonical strategy.

Default behavior

Shopify auto-generates sitemap at /sitemap.xml. Includes: home, collections, products (base URLs), blog posts, pages. Excludes: variant URLs (canonical to base).

Custom sitemap

Advanced — override via app or custom Liquid template. Rare need.

Submit to Google

Google Search Console → Sitemaps → submit /sitemap.xml. Google crawls + indexes based on canonical.

Multi-language sitemap

Shopify Markets: hreflang alternate URLs in sitemap. Includes per-language variants of same product.
