To sell custom rubber stamps on Shopify, choose the stamp types you'll offer (self-inking, pre-inked or wood-mounted), decide whether you'll make them yourself with a laser engraver or order them from a wholesale stamp maker that ships under your name, set up a product page where customers type their address lines or upload a logo and see a preview, and price each size so production, shipping and fees still leave a profit. Well-known stamp shops sell custom self-inking address stamps for about $14 to $32 and wood-mounted logo stamps for about $19 to $46.
Custom stamps are a steady, practical product: return address stamps for new homeowners and wedding invitations, logo stamps for small businesses and coffee cups, "from the library of" book stamps, teacher stamps and craft stamps. They're small, light to ship and personal by nature, because every order carries someone's name, address or brand.
This guide covers the whole process with real numbers. Prices, machine costs and artwork rules come from stamp makers' and laser makers' own pages, checked in October 2026. Prices change often, so check them again before you set yours.
Key takeaways
- Stamp shops sell custom self-inking address stamps for about $14 to $32 and wood-mounted logo stamps for about $19 to $46 (October 2026).
- No major print-on-demand partner offers custom stamps; make them in-house with a laser (rubber needs extraction) or use a wholesale maker with blind drop shipping.
- Artwork rules: black and white only, text at least 8 pt, lines at least 1 pt, 600 DPI or vector, and customers send artwork the right way round.
- Leave notary stamps out unless you follow state rules; Oregon only lets vendors supply one after seeing the notary's Certificate of Authorization.
Who buys custom rubber stamps
Custom stamps sell to a few clear groups:
- New homeowners and movers: return address stamps, often bought as housewarming gifts.
- Couples: address stamps for wedding invitations and save-the-dates, plus stamps with names and a wedding date.
- Small businesses and makers: logo stamps for kraft bags, coffee cups, business cards, packaging and loyalty cards.
- Book lovers and teachers: "from the library of" stamps, grading stamps and classroom stamps.
- Offices: "received", "paid" and signature stamps.
- Crafters: custom art stamps for cards, journals and scrapbooks.
A good store usually starts with one of these groups. Address stamps with a few beautiful layouts are the easiest place to begin: the personalization is simple text, and the demand is year-round.
Choose the stamp types you'll sell

Most custom stamp shops sell three types. Here is how stamp makers describe them:
| Type | How it works | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Self-inking | An ink pad sits inside the stamp; the rubber flips down onto the paper and back up to re-ink | Address, office and logo stamps used often |
| Pre-inked | Ink is soaked into the stamp itself, which gives a crisper image | Detailed logos and signatures |
| Wood-mounted (traditional) | A laser-engraved rubber die glued to a wood block, used with a separate ink pad | Craft, gift and logo stamps, any ink color |
What to know before you choose:
- Self-inking stamps run out of ink, not rubber. Simply Stamps says its self-inking stamps last 5,000+ impressions before the internal pad runs dry, and retailer listings for the Trodat Printy 4913 say up to 10,000. Sell replacement ink pads as an add-on.
- Pre-inked stamps need a short pause between impressions while the ink refills, according to Simply Stamps, but give the crispest detail.
- Wood-handled stamps come with no ink. Offer an ink pad as an add-on, and say so on the product page.
- Standard sizes make life easier. Self-inking stamps come in fixed mount sizes. For example, the Trodat Printy 4913 is listed with an impression of about 7/8 x 2-1/4 inches. Build your templates around the mounts you'll actually use.
Decide how you'll make the stamps
There are two realistic ways to produce custom stamps. Print-on-demand partners don't help here: we found no custom rubber or self-inking stamps in the Printify, Printful or Gelato catalogs in October 2026. Our ranking of Shopify print-on-demand services covers what those partners do make.
Option 1: Make them in-house with a laser engraver. Most custom rubber stamps today are laser engraved. Simply Stamps, for example, describes its traditional stamp as a laser-engraved rubber stamp attached to a solid wood base. You engrave the design into laser rubber, cut it out, then mount it on a self-inking unit or a wood block.
Option 2: Outsource to a wholesale stamp maker. Some stamp manufacturers make custom stamps to order for resellers and ship them to your customer in plain packaging. RubberStamps.net, for example, runs a wholesale program for approved resellers, Etsy and Amazon sellers and designers, with blind drop shipping ("your customer only sees you"), packing slips that can carry your logo, and no minimum order. You apply with business details and a resale certificate. It doesn't publish its discount rates and doesn't mention a Shopify integration, so you'd send orders by email or through its site.
If you already engrave other products, making stamps in-house adds a product line with cheap materials. If you don't, start with a wholesale maker, prove that your designs sell, then decide whether a laser is worth it. Our guide to starting a custom engraving business on Shopify covers the equipment side in more depth.
Making stamps in-house: equipment and materials

The laser. Both CO2 and diode lasers can engrave rubber, with different speed and depth:
| Machine | Type | Listed price (October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Glowforge Spark | 6 W blue diode | $899 (listed as sold out) |
| xTool P2S | 55 W CO2 | $2,999 (machine only) |
| xTool P3 | 80 W CO2 | $6,999 (machine only) |
| Trotec Speedy 360/480 | 80 to 120 W CO2 | Quote only |
Glowforge says the Spark can engrave and cut rubber, and that rubber works in a Glowforge "as long as it's natural rubber". Trotec recommends its Speedy series for stamp making and says large batches take minutes. Higher power mostly buys you speed and depth.
The rubber. Use rubber sold for laser engraving. xTool sells laser engraving rubber stamp sheets (natural rubber, 297 x 210 x 2.3 mm) at $16.99 for two. Some suppliers sell "odorless" laser rubber, which matters if you engrave indoors.
Settings and depth. Trotec says to engrave at least 1.1 mm deep for a good impression when you use rubber outside its built-in material database. As one example, Epilog's odorless rubber stamp project on a 30 W Fusion Maker used its "Stamp" engrave type at 500 DPI, then washed the stamps after cutting and glued them to blocks.
Mirroring. A stamp has to be engraved in reverse so the impression reads correctly. Trotec's driver handles this when you choose its "Stamp" process, so you don't mirror the artwork yourself. With other software, check whether you need to mirror the design before you engrave a whole batch.
Safety.
- Trotec says stamp rubber gives off "an excess of dust and odor" and recommends an extraction system with enough activated carbon.
- xTool's support pages recommend a dust mask, laser goggles matched to your laser's wavelength, and air assist.
- Never laser vinyl or PVC as a cheap stamp material. Glowforge warns that vinyl can release hazardous gases that can hurt you and damage the machine.
Mounting. Glue each finished die to a wood block, or fit it to a self-inking unit sized for that die. Ask your mount supplier for its die sizes before you design your templates.
Get the artwork right

Most stamp complaints come from artwork that's too fine. Stamp makers publish clear rules:
- Black and white only. Rubber Stamp Champ accepts black-and-white art only. Trodat's artwork guidance, as published by a Trodat reseller, asks for 100% black with no greyscale, gradients or shadows.
- High resolution or vector. Rubber Stamp Champ asks for at least 600 DPI and prefers EPS files. Jukebox Print asks for vector PDFs with text converted to outlines.
- Text no smaller than 8 pt. Rubber Stamp Champ says fonts should be at least 8 pt and not bold under 10 pt. Trodat's guidance says 7 pt, so 8 pt is a safe floor.
- Lines no thinner than 1 pt. Trodat's guidance gives 1 pt (0.2 mm) as the narrowest line. Jukebox Print recommends 2 pt for fine details.
- Customers send artwork the right way round. Mirroring happens in production, not in the customer's file.
What this means for your product page:
- Give address stamps a limit on lines and a character limit per line, tested on the real stamp size. Vistaprint, for example, advises no more than 3 lines of text for legibility on its stamps.
- Offer three or four tested fonts that stay readable at small sizes, rather than a free choice.
- For logo uploads, tell customers the file needs to be black and white and high resolution, and check every logo before you engrave it.
Our guides to adding logo upload to Shopify products and the best fonts for engraved products cover these details.
Price custom stamps

Here is what established stamp shops charged in October 2026:
| Retailer | Stamp | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Rubber Stamp Champ | Address stamp, wood hand stamp (2 to 10 lines) | $11.50 to $22.50 |
| Rubber Stamp Champ | Address stamp, self-inking (2 to 10 lines) | $14.44 to $31.44 |
| Rubber Stamp Champ | Address stamp, pre-inked (2 to 10 lines) | $30.00 to $60.00 |
| Simply Stamps | Return address stamp, self-inking, about 1.5 x 1.5 in | $23.95 |
| Simply Stamps | Round logo stamp, self-inking, 2 in | $29.49 |
| Simply Stamps | Logo stamp, wood handle, 1 to 3 in | $18.99 to $29.99 |
| Simply Stamps | Logo stamp, wood handle, XL rectangle | $46.49 |
So a well-designed self-inking address stamp at $22 to $30, or a wood-mounted logo stamp at $25 to $40, sits right where buyers expect to pay. A stylish design (a hand-lettered wedding address stamp, say) can sell above the plain office stamps in this table.
What goes into your cost:
- The die. In-house, laser rubber is cheap: one $16.99 pack of xTool sheets holds two A4 sheets, enough for dozens of small address dies.
- The mount. A self-inking unit or a wood block, usually the biggest material cost. Get quotes from a mount supplier or stamp wholesaler before you set prices.
- Your time. Checking artwork, engraving, cutting, washing and mounting each stamp.
- Packaging and shipping. Stamps are small and light, but self-inking stamps need protective packaging so they don't leak.
- Payment fees. On Shopify's Basic plan, Shopify Payments charges 2.9% + 30¢ per online card payment in the US. On a $24.95 stamp, that's about $1.02.
Pricing tips:
- Price by size and type, not by order. Self-inking costs more than wood-mounted, and pre-inked more again.
- Charge for extra lines. Rubber Stamp Champ prices address stamps by number of lines. Our guide to per-character engraving pricing shows how to set up line- or character-based fees.
- Sell add-ons: replacement ink pads, extra ink colors, an ink pad with wood stamps, and gift boxes.
- Charge for design work if you redraw a customer's logo or create a custom monogram.
Set up the stamp product on Shopify

Variants are for choices that change your cost: stamp type (self-inking, pre-inked, wood-mounted), size and ink color. Shopify allows up to three options and up to 2,048 variants per product, so type, size and ink color fit easily.
Personalization is what the customer creates, saved on the order:
- Text fields for each line (name, street, city), with a clear label and a character limit you've tested on the stamp.
- A font choice from your tested fonts, shown as swatches.
- A layout or design choice (classic, monogram, wreath, modern), shown as image swatches.
- A logo upload for business stamps, with the black-and-white and resolution rules next to the button.
- A live preview showing the address or logo on the stamp impression, so customers catch typos before they pay.
- Add-on fees for extra lines, a second ink pad or a gift box.
With PIMW Product Personalizer (our app), text fields, the live preview and add-on fees work on every plan, including Free. Customer image upload, which you need for logo stamps, is on Pro and Unlimited. Our guide to selling personalized products on Shopify covers the full setup, and our page on the tool for selling personalized gifts shows how the same setup works for gift stamps.
Proof before you engrave. A typo on a stamp means a new die. For logo stamps and long addresses, send the customer a proof, or put the order on hold until they approve the preview.
Legal rules: notary stamps, seals and logos
Notary stamps are regulated. Notary stamps have state-prescribed content, and some states put duties on the vendor. In Oregon, a vendor may supply a notary's official stamp only after the notary presents their Certificate of Authorization, and a vendor who breaks this rule can face a $500 civil penalty per offense (OAR 160-100-0125). Rules differ from state to state. Unless you're ready to check each state's rules and verify every buyer's commission, leave notary stamps out of your catalog.
Professional and official seals (engineers, architects, government offices) follow their own rules. Treat them the same way: don't sell them unless you know the rules.
Logos and trademarks. Only make a logo stamp when the customer has the right to use the logo. Rubber Stamp Champ, for example, won't produce a stamp with a trademark or logo unless the customer shows written permission from its owner. Add a line to your product page and terms saying the customer confirms they own or have permission to use any uploaded logo, and refuse orders with well-known brand logos.
Returns. Custom stamps are made to order. Say clearly that personalized stamps can't be returned for change of mind, but that you'll remake any stamp with a production error. Our guide to selling personalized products on Shopify covers the EU, UK and US rules for personalized goods.
Your custom rubber stamp launch checklist
- Pick your main buyer: homeowners, weddings, small businesses, book lovers or crafters.
- Choose two or three stamp types and the mount sizes you'll use.
- Decide on in-house laser production or a wholesale stamp maker, and order samples.
- Build address and logo templates that follow the artwork rules: 8 pt text, 1 pt lines, black and white.
- Price each size and type with the die, mount, labor, packaging, shipping and fees.
- Set type, size and ink color as variants; lines, font, layout and logo as personalization fields.
- Add a live preview, character limits per line and a logo upload with clear file rules.
- Proof long addresses and logos before you engrave.
- Add a logo permission line, and leave notary and official seals out unless you know the rules.
- Place a test order and stamp the result on real paper.
Get the artwork rules, the preview and the proofing right, and a custom stamp becomes a small product customers use every week and order again when they move, marry or start a business.
Frequently asked questions
How much do custom rubber stamps sell for?
In October 2026 Rubber Stamp Champ sold self-inking address stamps for $14.44 to $31.44 and wood address stamps for $11.50 to $22.50, and Simply Stamps sold a self-inking return address stamp for $23.95 and wood handle logo stamps for $18.99 to $46.49.
Can I sell custom stamps with print on demand?
Not through the big partners: we found no custom rubber or self-inking stamps in the Printify, Printful or Gelato catalogs in October 2026. Instead, make them with a laser engraver or use a wholesale stamp maker that drop ships under your name, such as RubberStamps.net's wholesale program.
What laser do I need to make rubber stamps?
Both diode and CO2 lasers can engrave natural laser rubber. Glowforge says its 6 W Spark ($899) can engrave and cut rubber, and CO2 machines such as the xTool P2S ($2,999) are faster. Rubber gives off dust and odor, so you need good extraction.
What artwork do custom stamps need?
Black and white only, at least 600 DPI or vector, text at least 8 pt (no bold under 10 pt) and lines at least 1 pt thick. Customers send artwork the right way round; mirroring happens in production.
Can I sell notary stamps?
Only if you follow each state's rules. In Oregon, a vendor may supply a notary stamp only after the notary presents a Certificate of Authorization, with a $500 civil penalty per offense. Most new stamp shops leave notary and official seals out.
How do I add address lines and logo upload to a stamp product on Shopify?
Use a personalizer app with a text field per line, character limits, font swatches, logo upload and a live preview. In PIMW Product Personalizer, text fields and preview work on every plan, and customer image upload is on Pro and Unlimited.
