Customer hitting character limit — options to adjust
2 min read · Last updated May 27, 2026
Raise the character limit
- Personalizer template → open the text field.
- Change Character limit to a higher number.
- Save. Live counter updates immediately for new customers.
Existing orders are unaffected. Only new orders see the new limit.
Why character limits exist
- Physical constraints — engraving on a small ring only fits 15 chars.
- Font-specific — script fonts take more horizontal space than block.
- Production time — longer engravings cost more labor.
- Design integrity — long text on small products looks cramped.
Multi-line text as an alternative
If customers regularly hit your limit, consider switching to a multi-line text field (labeled clearly as "Line 1 of 2", "Line 2 of 2"). Common on plaques, cake toppers, signs.
Per-character pricing at the limit
If you charge per character with tiers, the last tier's rate applies at the limit. Customers see the running fee live and self-regulate.
